A slice of Californian sunshine has landed in central London to celebrate the latest collection from VANS and skate-legend Tony Alva.
Located in the basement of the Covent Garden store, the ‘Alva Studio’ brings to life Alva’s world of creative exploration spanning art, music, surf and skate culture in the sunny climes of California. The multi-purpose space is home to a program of community focused events including live music, creative workshops and screenings.
We created a distinct Santa Monica energy by combining Californian and vintage inspired design details and digital elements such as podiums modelled on skate ramps, swimming pool tiles, projected water ripple and sunset motion graphics, vintage TVs, palm trees, wooden deckchairs featuring the iconic VANS chequerboard and a Tony Alva memorabilia wall.
As part of our ongoing work with VANS to make its campaigns more sustainable with smart investments and modular design, we repurposed and reskinned multiple elements from previous campaigns to create this immersive space.
As a meeting space for the VANS family and skate community, the design needed to accommodate a program of events focused on exploring creativity – a shared value of VANS and Alva. Visitors to the studio can participate in activities including sneaker customisation workshops, artist led classes, live music and screenings.
